BEACH COTTAGES AT PMRF 

Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, Sunday: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Notice:  effective Apr. 7, Saturday/Sunday hours will be 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

 

The beautiful isle of Kauai boasts many of the most pristine beaches in the world with warm sand and heavenly waves. Escape to paradise with a relaxing stay at our beach cottages located at PMRF Barking Sands. Dubbed the Garden Isle because of its luxurious foliage.

 

Kauai offers a dramatic change from the buzz of Oahu. The Pacific Missile Range Facility is located on the west side of the island and is an installation of Navy Region Hawaii. You can book your cottage stay by calling the Reservations office at 808-335-4697 or 808-335-4752.  

Bookings can be done online at www.dodlodging.net and select the Navy Getaways tab, then select Barking Sands Beach Cottages PMRF in the Location menu.

After Hours, Cottage packets will be picked up at the Guard Gate.

 

Directions to PMRF Barking Sand Beach Cottages from Lihue Airport

 

1. Lihue Airport

Start out going southwest on Mokulele Loop, turn left onto Ahukini Rd./Hl-570.

 

2. At 2nd stoplight, turn left onto Kuhio Hwy/HJ-56 S.

 

3. Kuhio Hwy/Hl-56 becomes Hl-50 W. Kaumualii Hwy.

 

4. Turn left at the 30 mile marker (sign "Pacific Missile Range Facility").

You have reached your destination.

 

Check-in at the Community Recreation Center, Bldg 1293, 1st building on your right once on base.  Check-in time is 3pm.

If arriving after hours, your packet will be waiting for you at the gate with the guards.

Let them know you are checking in and they will have your packet waiting for you.

Office hours are Mon-Fri 8:30am-5pm, Sat/Sun Federal Holidays 10am-2pm.

Are all the cottages beachfront?

12 beach cottages are oceanfront and 12 are ocean view.

Can I bring my friend/family who is a foreign national?

Foreign nationals are not authorized to reserve or stay in Beach Cottages, except where otherwise authorized as serving aboard a US military installation as a military member of an allied nation, spouse of an active duty person, etc. The commanding officer may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis. If an unauthorized foreign national is discovered among the cottage guests, the entire party will be escorted off base by security and a refund will not be authorized.

How do I confirm my reservation?

A valid Visa or Mastercard credit card is required.  Cancellations made more than 14 days prior to the reserved date will be without penalty. Cancellations made within the 14 days of reserved date is subject to payment of one (1) night stay, or 25% of total stay, whichever is greater.

How far in advance can I book a cottage?

All reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis without regard to rate or rank.

Reservations may be made up to 1 year in advance for Active Duty Members.

Reservations may be made up to 6 months in advance for Retirees and DoD civilians.

How far is the base from the airport?

The base is 36 miles west of Lihue airport. Driving time is approximately 45 minutes. From the airport, head west on HWY 50 and turn left at the 30 mile marker.

How long can I stay in a cottage?

Minimum stay is 2 nights for any day of arrival. Maximum stay is 14 days.  One cottage per one ID holder; any guests that are not ID holders must stay in the cottage with the ID holder. 

How many people can stay in the cottage?

A maximum of six (6) people in the standard and deluxe cottages, and eight (8) people in the VIP cottage.

What do we do if we're checking in after business hours?

Cottage packets will be available at the Housing Gate Pass & ID Office after listed operating hours.  Please be sure to have your military ID available. 

What is provided in the cottage?

All cottages are fully furnished with refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, microwave, coffee maker, TV, DVD/VCR, basic cable, telephone, internet access, dishes, flatware, cooking utensils, cookware and BBQ grill. Linen and towels are also provided. Bedrooms are air-conditioned.  

Personal toiletries, laundry detergent and charcoal are NOT provided. Beach chairs and other gear are available for rent through our Gear Issue at the Outdoor Adventure Center.

Who is authorized to stay in the cottages?

All military personnel and their family members, retired or active duty, DoD civilians, MWR, NEX or NAF employees and contractors working onboard the installation who have been authorized use of MWR programs by the Commanding Officer. Please bring your military ID to access the base.
